Care information

*Adenia cordifolia* is a vigorous climbing vine in the passionflower family with heart-shaped leaves that can press flat and shingle closely against surfaces in its juvenile growth. As it matures, stems elongate and climb readily when given support, forming a dense cover of overlapping foliage. This combination of shingling juvenile growth and fast vining habit makes it a striking plant for terrariums, grow cabinets, or trained on supports indoors.

You will receive an **unrooted cutting**, grower’s choice. It will be similar in size and form to the one pictured but not the exact plant. Shipped bare-root or in moss depending on conditions.

**Light Requirements:** Bright, indirect light to some direct sun.
**Humidity Requirements:** high, 50–90%.
**Temperature Range:** 65–90°F (18–32°C). Can handle short dips just below 60°F (16°C).
**Growth Habit:** Juvenile growth shingles against surfaces; mature growth climbs and vines extensively.
**Soil:** Well-draining tropical mix with Sphagnum, perlite, and organic matter. Avoid waterlogging.
**pH:** 6.0–7.5.
**Size:** Juvenile leaves \~4–6 cm; mature leaves larger, with vines that can reach several meters if supported.

Plant Details
Airflow
High — Requires constant active ventilation. These plants are extremely sensitive to high humidity unless accompanied by significant, steady air movement to mimic their native breezy habitats.
Family
Passifloraceae
Growth strategy
Terrestrial
Humidity
40–60%
Lighting
Direct — High-energy plants that require full sun exposure or very close proximity to professional-grade grow lights to prevent legginess and maintain structural integrity.
PH
6.5–7.5 — Neutral: Suitable for hardy species that are less sensitive to water chemistry. This range is common in setups using tap water or inert substrates like clay pebbles and stones.

Temperature
70–85°F — Standard Tropical Range. This mirrors the natural understory of the rainforest, providing enough warmth for vigorous growth while remaining safe from the extreme heat that can bake a closed glass enclosure.
Watering substrate
Dry Between — Epiphytic or succulent-type growth that requires the substrate or mounting surface to dry out significantly between mistings to prevent root death.
World
Old World — Native to the Eastern Hemisphere: Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and surrounding islands.
