Care information

*Teratophyllum* sp. “Filigree” is a climbing fern in cultivation recognized for its finely divided foliage and shingling growth habit. Juvenile fronds develop closely appressed to the surface they climb, forming layered growth along wood, bark, or background panels. The fronds are deeply lobed into small rounded segments, giving a delicate, filigree-like appearance. As with other *Teratophyllum*, growth is best when allowed to climb vertically where the plant can maintain its shingling form.

You will receive a single cutting, grower’s choice. Listing photos are representative of the approximate size and form you will receive.

**Light Requirements:** Bright, indirect light to light shade. Avoid direct sun.
**Humidity Requirements:** High, 70–90 percent. Performs best in terrariums or enclosed cabinets.
**Temperature Range:** 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep above 60°F (16°C).
**Growth Habit:** Climbing, shingling fern that grows appressed to vertical surfaces.
**Soil:** Fine, well-draining mix or mounted culture on wood, bark, or background panels with moss.
**pH:** Slightly acidic, approximately 5.5–6.5.
**Size:** Fronds remain small and finely divided; plant spreads gradually along the surface it climbs.

Plant Details
Airflow
Medium — Essential for "wetish" setups. Needs regular air exchange or internal circulation fans to prevent water from sitting on leaves, which helps avoid rot and fungal issues.
Family
Polypodiaceae
Growth strategy
Epiphyte
Humidity
80–100% — The "Sweet Spot" for most rare tropicals and shinglers. This high-saturation environment is essential for aerial root attachment to hardscape and ensures that delicate foliage maintains its turgidity and sheen.
Lighting
Moderate — Prefers bright, filtered, or indirect light. This is the "sweet spot" for most terrarium species; however, direct sun or high-intensity LEDs will scorch delicate juvenile leaves.
PH
5.5–6.5 — Acidic (Optimal): The “Goldilocks” zone for most tropical terrarium plants, including Marcgravia. This range ensures maximum nutrient availability and mimics the natural decomposition of leaf litter on the rainforest floor.

Rooted
Size
Large
Temperature
70–85°F — Standard Tropical Range. This mirrors the natural understory of the rainforest, providing enough warmth for vigorous growth while remaining safe from the extreme heat that can bake a closed glass enclosure.
Watering substrate
Damp — These plants love high moisture levels; the substrate should stay wet to the touch at all times but should not be sitting in a stagnant, waterlogged state.
World
Old World — Native to the Eastern Hemisphere: Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and surrounding islands.
