Care information

*Marcgravia umbellata pink* is a tropical shingling vine native to Central and South America. It produces flattened, rounded juvenile leaves that press tightly against the surface it climbs. As it matures, the leaves become larger and more separated. This variant shows red to pink coloration in the juvenile leaves under high humidity and good lighting. Best suited for terrariums, grow cabinets, or mounted culture where high humidity and vertical support are available.

You will receive a **10-leaf unrooted cutting**, grower's choice. It will be similar in size and form to the one pictured but not the exact cutting. Shipped bare and unrooted.

**Light Requirements:** Moderate to bright, indirect light. Avoid strong direct sun.
**Humidity Requirements:** Very high, 80–100%.
**Temperature Range:** 70–85°F (21–29°C). Keep above 65°F (18°C).
**Growth Habit:** Shingling climber. Juvenile leaves press flat against vertical surfaces.
**Soil:** Typically mounted on wood, cork, or mossy surfaces. If potted, use a fine, airy tropical mix.
**pH:** Slightly acidic, 5.5–6.5.
**Size:** Slow to moderate grower. Can climb several feet over time with vertical support.

Plant Details
Airflow
Low — Specifically suited for sealed, stagnant environments. These plants do not require active ventilation or fans to prevent bacterial or fungal "melt."
Family
Marcgraviaceae
Growth strategy
Epiphyte
Humidity
80–100% — The "Sweet Spot" for most rare tropicals and shinglers. This high-saturation environment is essential for aerial root attachment to hardscape and ensures that delicate foliage maintains its turgidity and sheen.
Lighting
Moderate — Prefers bright, filtered, or indirect light. This is the "sweet spot" for most terrarium species; however, direct sun or high-intensity LEDs will scorch delicate juvenile leaves.
PH
5.5–6.5 — Acidic (Optimal): The “Goldilocks” zone for most tropical terrarium plants, including Marcgravia. This range ensures maximum nutrient availability and mimics the natural decomposition of leaf litter on the rainforest floor.

Temperature
65–75°F — Ideal for "Cool-Growers" or highland species. These plants prefer the lower end of the tropical spectrum and may show signs of stress or heat-dropping leaves if temperatures consistently exceed 80°F.
Watering substrate
Damp — These plants love high moisture levels; the substrate should stay wet to the touch at all times but should not be sitting in a stagnant, waterlogged state.
World
New World — Native to the Western Hemisphere: North, Central, and South America plus the Caribbean
